Crystal Palace: one for the scrapbook

First week of the massively popular Crystal Palace Tuesday night race series, held in Crystal Palace Park. I got nerfed and then struggled to stay on the pace from the outset so ended up racing in a grupetto which was frustrating as I didn’t need to be back there.

Highlight of the evening was watching Germain Burton win the Elite race while racing on youth gears (restricted to a maximum of 52×16 compared to adults who can race on anything they like, usually 53×12). I can now hang this picture on my wall and say I’ve been in the same pack as him.

(No one needs know that I’m being lapped, possibly for the second time, in the 3/4 race rather than his E/1/2 one)

It’s no wonder people are talking about him as a serious talent. If you don’t have the current edition of Rouleur, issue 23, which has an interview with him, I highly recommend it.

Thanks to John at London Cycle Sport for the picture. Find out more about racing at Crystal Palace.
