Get your first taste of racing this weekend

London Dynamo Beginners' Race 2011

This Saturday marks the beginning of the road season in the South East for many amateurs. If you’ve not raced before then the London Dynamo Beginners’ Race is a brilliant way to decide if it’s for you.

The club has been organising these for a few years now on the Chertsey/Longcross circuit as part of the Surrey League. Last year the circuit wasn’t available so there wasn’t one.

I’ll be heading along (if I get out of bed) and joining some others at Kingston Gate, Richmond Park to set off at 08:15 at the latest.

The races on are:

4 Cat 09.30am
3W/4W 09.31am
E/1/2/3 H’Cap 11.15am

According to the club race secretary, the format for the 4th Cat race: “As before, we will be splitting the riders into small groups and giving a few laps of instruction before bringing all the riders together for a 45min race.”

It’s a great way to get a taste for racing and it introduces you to the Surrey League which puts on a mammoth number of races in the South East.

So if you fancy laughing at my racing, discover whether you like bunch races or simply need an excuse to eat cake: Set your alarm clock for Saturday morning.

By the way, it looks like there is a lot of cake being made which will be available before and after the races. Cake is good.

Cost: I think it’s either £15 or £20. There’s also an option to sign up to the Surrey League (I think that’s £20) which gets you future reductions on their races.
